About the Industry PhD program
RACE for 2030 aims to accelerate the transition to a reliable, affordable, clean energy by 2030 through innovation focused on energy end users and the networks that supply them. The RACE Industry PhD Program partners with industry and universities to train future leaders through practical, demand-driven research projects.
Industry and research partners shape each PhD research agenda around pressing needs, emerging opportunities and real-world impact. Through this program, PhD candidates apply their expertise and passion to deliver positive outcomes and meaningful change.
The Ariel Liebman RACE for 2030 Monash University Indonesia PhD Program
RACE for 2030 and Monash University launched the Ariel Liebman RACE for 2030 Monash University Indonesia PhD Program – a pioneering partnership designed to build the next generation of energy research leaders.
Developed in collaboration with Monash University Indonesia and Indonesia’s state electricity provider, Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), this flagship initiative connects academic expertise with national industry priorities. It offers an industry-embedded PhD experience that connects doctoral candidates with leading energy experts across Australia and Indonesia.
This program builds on the foundations laid by the late Monash Energy Institute Director and our inaugural RACE for Networks program leader, Ariel Liebman, whose vision for international collaboration helped shape this initiative. His legacy continues through deepening ties with Indonesian universities and support from RACE for 2030.
This initiative not only strengthens energy research in the region, but also builds long-term institutional relationships across countries, sectors, and disciplines, setting a new benchmark for international PhD collaboration in Southeast Asia.
