Aligning nudges with motivations to encourage sustainable consumer behaviour towards clean transport

Supervisors

Dr Adrian Camilerri (UTS)

The project

Behavioural nudges have been shown to boost EV adoption by up to 15%. This project looks to build upon this by testing personalised interventions in an Australian context, offering new insights into how behavioural science can accelerate the clean transport transition. Research will focus on how personalised digital nudges can overcome three key barriers to EV adoption of perceived high cost, range anxiety, and charging convenience.

The project will test the effectiveness of targeted interventions that address each concern and examines whether matching people with the most relevant message increases its impact, delivering actionable insights for EV manufacturers, energy providers, policymakers, and transport planners. Outcomes form this research can then be used to design more effective, data-driven outreach that connects the right message with the right audience – ultimately helping increase EV uptake and reduce reliance on petrol vehicles.
