Industry PhD project title: Warm Sensations: Exploring the mobile material cultures of heating in Chinese migrant homes in Australia
RACE University and Industry partners: Monash University
Previous education and work background:
Before joining Monash, I did a BA in Communication Studies (First Class Honours) from the University of Liverpool, and an MSc in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology (Distinction) from the University of Oxford. My previous work experience focused on researching the experiences of museum visitors and international students at the university.
What attracted you to the RACE Industry PhD?
My PhD is part of the Digital Energy Futures (DEF) project, which was an ARC linkage project involving Energy Consumers Australia, AusNet Services, and Ausgrid. The questions I am researching have come from this industry engagement, particularly responding to an identified need to engage more deeply with CALD households.
Due to Covid, I commenced my PhD towards the end of DEF, and therefore I wanted to deepen my direct engagement with the energy sector through enhancing equity and representation in Australia’s energy transition. My work also aligns directly with RACE for Homes’ thermal efficiency goals.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you were older?:
Quantum physicist
Fun fact about you:
I have lots of hobbies – e.g. Tango, the Portuguese language, and Brazilian music.
