The CSIRO National Energy Analysis Centre’s Living Lab will help ground policy in real-world experience – with participants (both households and businesses) sharing energy data and insights on their energy use and energy technology decisions. This will provide a genuine feedback loop between energy consumers and policy and decision-makers.
For NSW Department of Climate Change, the Environment, Energy and Water (DCCEEW) who are funding a major Living Lab component in NSW, this means a dynamic, evidence-based view of what’s working on the ground in terms of energy policy – what’s reducing bills, what risks leaving people behind, and indicate areas where consumer energy may benefit from a change in focus or support
The Living Lab gives researchers, innovators, and policymakers fast, scalable access to a pre-recruited, diverse pool of Australian households and businesses – without the time and cost of building recruitment infrastructure from scratch.
Research can scale from a single survey to a multi-year trial with real homes and businesses to understand user experience, system implications, evaluate energy programs and initiatives and share insights with stakeholders. Participants, both households and businesses, receive personalised insights into their energy use.
Recruitment to the lab is underway. The project aims to recruit 1000 homes and 60 small businesses. Visit the website to express your interest in applying for the Living Lab.
