The Australian home energy upgrades initiatives database will develop a national database of approximately 60 community and local government-led home energy upgrade initiatives across Australia, creating an openly accessible evidence base to support better program design, stronger collaboration and more effective local delivery.
The database will address a major knowledge gap by providing a much-needed evidence base for program organisers, policymakers, and researchers to better understand and scale locally-led home energy upgrade efforts.
This new database aims to capture key information on delivery models, financial incentives, governance approaches, and upgrade support mechanisms and outcomes. It will also feed into RACE for 2030’s Energy Upgrades for Australian Homes platform, helping program organisers, policymakers and researchers identify what works in different contexts and apply those insights more widely.
By improving visibility, coordination and shared learning, the project is expected to support more effective and equitable home energy upgrade programs across Australia. While it does not directly deliver upgrades, it plays an important enabling role in accelerating uptake, informing future policy and investment, and supporting the national goal of upgrading 1 million homes by 2030. The result will be a stronger foundation for locally led action and a more connected pathway to low-emissions, energy-efficient homes.
