What attracted you to the RACE Industry PhD?
A platform to engage the industry to conduct impactful research.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you were older?
I grew up in a Malaysian small town. While there wasn’t any big dream, there was no lack of childhood fun. Even as a kid, I had enjoyed the current affairs and policy section of newspapers, but I wasn’t clued in to pursue anything remotely close – I followed everyone else into engineering. Pursuing this PhD is kind of fulfilling this interest, all at 5 decades old!
What do you hope to achieve?
I want to develop my expertise on how ASEAN can decarbonise. The PhD is a rigorous goal to build a strong foundation of knowledge. I hope to continue in emission reduction policy development.
What are you most looking forward to?
Producing truly valuable research that is referenced by policy makers and industry.
What innovation/change would you like to see in 5-10 years’ time?
That ASEAN achieves a common understanding of the key and compulsory steps to decarbonise. That ASEAN and Australia come closer together leveraging complementary strengths for a cleaner and more secure future.
