The project
Australia faces two parallel challenges: transitioning to net zero emissions while delivering more well-located and affordable housing. At the precinct scale, these priorities intersect through decisions about urban form, infrastructure, development intensity and environmental performance.
This PhD research develops a decision-support framework that links Environmental Performance Indicators (EPIs) with urban design attributes to enable rapid and comparable assessment of precinct development scenarios. Using Australian case studies, the research develops a reusable typology library and performance framework to support early-stage planning and design decisions.
The research is undertaken within the Envision Tomorrow Australia (ET-Oz) project, representing its urban design pathway within the broader RACE for 2030 Pathways to Net Zero Precincts project. It contributes to the localisation of precinct-scale scenario modelling for Australian planning, regulatory and industry contexts.
